My life journey led me to discover my greatest passion, helping others to overcome life obstacles. I know how important it is to find meaning in even the most challenging circumstances. Through both classroom and life experiences I have developed the ability to set and follow through with goals, to see a challenge from many different angles, and to help others find and develop their strengths. In order to maximize my credibility and skills, I pursued certifications through Coach Training Alliance. I am a CTA Certified Life Coach and a Licensed and Specialty-Certified New Life Story Coach.
My appreciation for helping others revealed itself throughout my college years. As a sorority pledge I was selected to be Pledge Class Chaplain and then went on to become Sorority Chaplain. This opportunity became a gift to build my faith and allow me to counsel and mentor my peers.
The opportunity to work as a counselor at Camp John Marc in Meridian, Texas, changed my life and gave me further direction. This beautiful camp serves children with chronic medical conditions and physical disabilities such as spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, heart disease, and cancer. These children became my heroes as I witnessed their joy, strength of character, and courage. I freely offered encouragement and comfort and had my first experiences in coaching. Learning as I taught, I was amazed at the wisdom and creativity of these young children.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development and Family Studies with an emphasis on Child Life from Texas Tech University, I had the wonderful experience of acting as Director of Young Adult and Collegiate Ministries at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston, Texas. In this role I directed several trips to assist Habitat for Humanity, mentored young adults, and organized weekly lessons.
Later, I worked with Communities in Schools as a Caseworker. This program provided support and guidance to at risk students. I led individual and group sessions that encouraged positive life skills, academic success, and self-esteem.
In addition, I served as Team Leader for students at Stanford University’s Super Camp. My responsibilities included motivating, searching for each student’s strengths and talents, working together to build life skills, enhancing self-esteem, and developing goals.
Today, I live part of the year in Houston, Texas, and part of the year in the beautiful mountains of Utah, where I enjoy coaching / mentoring and working as a ski instructor.
